Why is body hydration important?
The skin envelops our entire body with a clear purpose: to protect ourselves. For this reason, it is very important to provide the best care so that it isolates us from external aggressions, adequately regulates the exchange of molecules between the external environment and internal tissues and helps to correctly control body temperature.
In this sense, one of the main care that we must take is to provide good hydration. Water is an essential element in all the tissues of our body and, in a very special way, in the skin. The most superficial part of the epidermis is the poorest in water, and it needs to stay hydrated to be in good condition.
When the skin does not have the adequate level of hydration it loses flexibility and becomes rough, dry and fragile. A clear indication is the appearance of symptoms such as flaking, rough skin and a feeling of tightness. In addition, if dehydration is intense or prolonged over time, wrinkles intensify, premature aging occurs and the skin becomes more vulnerable to external aggressions. Therefore, hydration is a key aspect for the skin, influencing its physical and mechanical characteristics.
Factors that affect our skin
In a natural way, the skin tries to maintain an optimal degree of hydration by reducing the escape of water into the atmosphere. To protect itself from excessive water evaporation, the epidermis secretes a hydrolipidic substance that acts as a protective screen.
However, this barrier weakens when the skin is exposed to water for a long time or when it is constantly exposed to multiple other aggressions:
- Climatic: cold, wind, sun, heat, dry environment, pollution, heating, air conditioning…
- Mechanical: waxing, rubbing, too frequent exfoliation…
- Chemicals: solvents, detergents, inappropriate cosmetics, topical application medications…
Due to all these adverse factors that the skin faces on a daily basis, it is necessary to provide it with hydration, nutrition and regenerate its protective layer periodically. To achieve this, follow the advice that we have shown you in our body hydration test.
